Land O'Lakes Boycott
First a brief history.....
March 2003, Land O'Lakes produced a batch of Profile Dr. Evan's Alpaca Supplement that contained salinomycin. This is an antibiotic used in chicken feed, but is deadly to alpacas. Soon after hundreds of alpacas started to die. The common link was that they all ate this feed. This feed was mostly distibuted to farms in Ohio. One farm alone lost over 100 animals, with more very ill. Smaller farms lost everything. Land O'Lakes first denied the mixing error and tried to collect all the contaminated feed. The larger farms had sent their feed to Ohio State University for testing where the salinomycin was detected.
Jump ahead to March 2007. A lawsuit was filed and it made it to court (4 years later!!!) Quite frankly, when the trial was over we were stunned. To understand why, please click on the link below
